Peter Fury Q And A

Following the announcement of the news that Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora will face each other in a highly anticipated rematch I got to put my questions to Tyson's trainer Peter Fury.

,

Me: HI Peter, thanks once again for agreeing to answer my questions. It has been announced that Tyson is to face fellow Brit Dereck Chisora on the 26th July in Manchester, how confident of success are you?

Peter: Very confident of victory but not over confident.

Me: Do you believe the fight this time around will be much different to the first encounter?

Peter: This time a KO

Me: It was said before that Tyson would have another fight before the Chisora rematch, is there any news on a date and possible opponent?

Peter: Tyson's fight in April been cancelled. Next fight 26th July against Chisora

Me: Do you think that If Tyson beats Chisora he will get a shot against the WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko?

Peter: No I think klitschko will get the WBC then retire

Me: Klitschko has easily defended his titles in recent years, what is it about Tyson that would make for a more competitive fight than those seen of late?

Peter: Because Tyson is the best HW out there who can create any HW a problem.

Me: Following the cancellations of the two fights with David Haye, Tyson fell out of love with the sport and put on a lot of weight. How is he doing both mentally and physically at the moment?

Peter: Tyson is great in both ways. He's already dropped 14lbs since his last fight with Joey Abel. He's 18’7 already and working hard even at this stage.

Me: Moving onto Hughie who was very impressive last time out against Mathew Greer, how happy are you with his progress as a professional?

Peter: Hughie is doing very well.

Me: Hughie is back in action this Saturday in Sheffield against Danny Hughes, what can fans expect to see from Hughie in this fight?

Peter: His fight on 22nd is cancelled due to not feeling well. His next fight will be on Boxnation 12th April with Danny Hughes.

Me: How far do you believe Hughie can go in the sport and how much do you think he can achieve?

Peter: Hughie can & will be a world champion one day.

Me: Finally whilst talking about heavyweights, have you had a chance to see the Wilder ko of Scott? If so what's your take on the incident and how do you rate Wilder?

Peter: Yes wilder caught Scott with a left hook and Scott was gone. Impressive win by wilder. Very poor showing by Scott. Wilder if he can take 60% of what he can dish out will be world champ & a serious force to reckon with. But only if!!

Me: Thanks again for giving up your time to answer my questions, Sam

Ya welcome Sir sorry for delay

Following Peter's responses to my questions I felt it was only right to assess what has been said. Peter has raised several interesting points including his opinion on the Wladimir Klitschko situation. Peter believes that Klitschko will get a shot at the WBC title recently vacated by his older brother Vitali. Klitschko would be the big favourite with whoever he faced for the title. The likes of Stiverne and Arreola just aren't good enough to beat Klitschko and in my humble opinion aren't good enough to even test him.

Should Klitschko fight for the WBC title and inevitable win it, he would hold all the world titles and would become the Undisputed Heavyweight World Champion. Following such a win there would appear to be little for Klitschko to carry on fighting for and as Peter thinks he may well decide to retire.

If Klitschko was to retire naturally all of the belts would become vacant and the heavyweight division would be wide open. It could bring back excitement to a division that has stagnated in recent years. This is not meant as an insult to Klitschko who has beaten those out there for years now but his defensive fighting style has created a lack of interest in the division.

Peter seems highly confident of both Tyson's and Hughie's future success in the sport and of course that is natural for a trainer to say about his fighters but with Peter there is a genuine confidence in his fighters. It is refreshing to see a trainer like Peter who doesn't do much talking himself and who just focuses on the boxing itself and what needs to be done.

Finally the comments about Deontay Wilder make interesting reading. Wilder's victory over Malik Scott was very impressive and highlights his fantastic punch-power but Peter has raised a very good point. If Wilder can take some of what he dishes out than he will be a real force to be reckoned with but we have never seen him tested yet so we have no idea of how good he is or can be.
