Callum Smith Q and A

Callum Smith Interview:

I am very happy to say that I got to put my questions to unbeaten super-middleweight prospect Callum Smith.

Smith aged just 23 holds a record of 9 wins with 7 by way of knock-out and 0 losses. He has blitzed through every man put in his way so far and is rapidly building a reputation for himself as one of the best prospects out there.

He has power, height and good technique and if he stays dedicated than he can go on to be an excellent world champion. He has all of the tools necessary and with is part of the highly successful Joe Gallagher gym.

Anyway onto the questions:

Me: Thanks again for agreeing to answer my questions Callum, it has just been announced that you will return to the ring May 17th against Tobias Webb, how confident of success are you?

Callum: I'm very confident. I feel it's a good fight for me at this stage of my career but one I feel will bring out a better performance from me.

Me: What can fans expect to see from you in the fight and is there anything new that you have been working on?

Callum: I think there's a lot to expect from me. Webb will come to win and will make for a good fight. Because of a lot of my fights ending early, I feel people haven't had the chance to see what I can do yet.

Me: You haven't fought since October last year because of injury, how are you doing now and how healthy are you feeling?

Callum: I'm doing well. Hands getting better and just can't wait to get the ball rolling again. It's been frustrating being out for so long but I feel the rest has done me good

Me: You are being billed as one of the country's best up and coming fighters, how quickly do you see yourself progressing and how far do you think you can go in the sport?

Callum: I believe I can become a world champion one day. I wouldn't of turned pro if I didn't. Boxing is a tough sport and there are easier ways to make a living!

Me: You come from a real boxing family and your brother Paul, Stephen and Liam have all become British Champion, Paul is the current super-middleweight champion, is that a belt that you plan to win?

Callum: Of course. I'd love to win a Lonsdale belt. I've seen what it meant to my brothers and would be nice for all four of us to have won it

Me: At 6ft 3 you are very tall for the weight, do you see your future at super-middleweight or do you believe that you will move up in weight as you develop?

Callum: I make Supermiddle comfortably at the moment. But I'm still only young. I feel I'll move up to light heavy but not for a few years yet. Maybe around 26/27 when I mature properly.

Me: You are part of the highly successful Joe Gallagher camp with the likes of your brothers, Scott Quigg and Anthony Crolla, can you explain the atmosphere in the camp and just why there has been such success in recent years?

Callum: The gym is brilliant. There's a great atmosphere and it makes coming the gym more enjoyable. They say success breeds success and I feel that's been the case with us. You can only benefit from training alongside champions everyday.

Me: Are there any boxers out there who you would like to face in the future and why would you like to share the ring with them?

Callum: It's hard to say really because you don't know who will be around world level by the time I hopefully reach there.

Me: And finally major fight in your division is of course the Froch v Groves rematch, can I get your take on the fight and who wins and why?

Callum: Hard one to pick. How much did the last fight take out of Froch? And can Groves pull out another performance like he did last time? I wouldn't like to pick a winner to be honest but I think I'll side with Froch

Me: thanks again for giving up your time to answer my questions, all the best for preparation for your next fight, Sam
